Methylisothiazolinone is a preservative.

Is it safe? It is banned for use in cosmetics in Europe and restricted in Canada and Japan.

It has been associated with allergic reactions. Lab studies on the brain cells of mammals also suggest that methylisothiazolinone may be neurotoxic. Experts say it is second only to nickel in causing contact dermatitis – where skin becomes red, sore, swollen or inflamed after direct contact with a substance.
One in 12 adults and one in five children in the UK now have eczema, and contact dermatitis is one of the most common types. Some suffer instant skin irritation, where the cause is easy to pinpoint. But an alarming number have a delayed reaction, which can appear hours after exposure.

Why would any company use this? It is a preservative. It is cheap. And it allows companies to mass produce beauty products.

Is it making me more beautiful? NO. This toxic ingredient has nothing to do with any benefits your product may offer.
